Miami’s saddest story of all is the Coconut Grove Playhouse. Jim Fried’s opponent has been a complete failure in providing leadership to reach consensus on the Playhouse. The Playhouse was closed in 2006 because of poor leadership and the accumulation of debt. In 2014, Miami-Dade County took the Playhouse away from the City of Miami because of our inability to create a workable plan for its renovation and program restructuring. For the last 13 years, the Playhouse has become an increasing blight on the community.
As our commissioner, Jim Fried will get involved in helping to resolve the Playhouse’s problems once and for all. Fried knows that with his professional and communication skills, the Coconut Grove Playhouse can become a vital cultural and business asset in the community again.
